Biography

Izamar, originally a food engineer, transitioned to plant science and genetics to focus on sustainable food production. Her PhD research now centers on salt-tolerant grasses (Distichlis spp.). Using field experiments, data analysis, and genomics and genetics research, she is understanding these plants to develop them into new crops for saline environments. This work could help to address the issue of food security in arid regions where access to freshwater is limited.
