Juan is a Biological Engineer with a Postgraduate Diploma in Biotechnology from the National University of Colombia. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, he worked as a Research Engineer for three years within the Industrial Biotechnology Research Group. During this period, he worked in projects focused on plant cell cultures, bioreactor optimization, science divulgation with communities and phytochemistry. Transitioning from wet-lab bioprocessing to computational biology, he joined KAUST, first as an intern and later completing his M.S. in Bioscience, specializing in genome assembly, annotation, and genomic analysis of native Saudi Arabian plant species. Juan is passionate about biodiversity and bioinformatics, and he strives to uncover the stories hidden within biological data through advanced computational approaches.
